One of my favorite Scottsdale restaurants! I love the vibe and the food is great! My friend has the beef chimichanga with rice and beans. She gave them 4 stars. Her Patron margarita was just ok...she gave it 3 stars. I felt the same about my Cadillac Margarita. It was pretty mediocre. The chips are light and lightly salted. Loved them and loved the salsas. The hot one was really hot. I don't like paying an extra $3 for an extra basket of chips...oh well... I wish I could remember what I ate! It was just two days ago but I can't remember! I do know that I loved the beans and really enjoyed what I ate. I should also say that I ate here more than 20 years ago and it has the same charm now that it had then. I hate the way Scottsdale has changed but love the fact that this place remains constant. It's got authentic Southwest decor. No pretense. There's a bar and a few seating areas so it doesn't feel crowded. I'll eat here when I return to AZ.
My second time at Los Olivos was just as great as the first. I had the lunch special with a sour cream enchilada with green sauce and beef taco. It comes with rice and beans. It was hot and delicious, full of flavor! The restaurant wasn't very busy and the food was served quickly and with friendly, attentive service. I also tried the fried ice cream this time, which is fantastic. I highly recommend saving room for dessert. I sat in a different dining room this time. I love how each dining room has a unique, vibrant atmosphere with awesome art on the walls. Great vibes all around! Again, I highly recommend dining here...definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants in town.
Felt like a very solid Mexican restaurant - which is great! Everything I ordered was very good , but flavors were not out of this world. Nice sized portions. Chips and salsa were top. There were two types of salsa, and they both had good flavor and were nice and fresh. Was a little cavernous where we were, I imagine it can get quite loud when completely full. But it was cool, and easy to chat with others. Very attentive group, and didn't wait long for anything.
Wanted to go somewhere new to celebrate my husband's baptism. Los Olivos is Family owned and operated for seventy years -3 generations. The old-town Scottsdale location was originally built many years ago by their grandfather, Tomas Corral. One of the most exotic restaurants in Arizona lets diners sit underneath dozens of teardrop-shaped glass windows, and it's an unforgettable experience. Their motto is "Esta es su casa y vuelvan pronto," which means "This is your home, please return soon." The waiter was very attentive and kept my water glass full. I also really enjoyed the hot salsa that came with the chips. I had the fish tacos which were loaded with fish! They were delicious and thankfully not fried. All around great experience.
This place was a good Choice for us! The Food was good! We did the Lunch Specials! Couple drinks! Ambiance was good! Look like some Regulars! If we are ever back in this Area definitely will pop back in! Our Waitress was Spot on! Wish I got her name. She was Working Hard!!
Los Olivos in an Arizona classic located in the tourist area of Old Town Scottsdale. I specifically came here for the colorful atmosphere, the complimentary chips and salsa and a giant burrito slathered in enchilada sauce and cheese and I was NOT disappointed. This is classic Tex Mex fare, offering cheesy combination platters, cold sangria, and a beehive of separate dining rooms with brightly colored decor and red Spanish tile. It's perfect for families and large groups with ample space and a large menu offering something for everyone. May I suggest though, if asked if you want your burrito "Enchilada style," enthusiastically say, "yes!"
I have been going here since I was a child and when their other location closed, I've had a hard time making it to this one. But we went the other day and it was as good as I remember! I got the beef tamale with green sauce, the fish taco, and the cheese crisp. The tamale was great, the fish taco could've used some more flavor, and the cheese crisp was delicious and cheesy. I also recommend trying their authentic flour tortillas!
When Dan and I visited Old Town, a man at the tourist information center recommended this restaurant. Dan and I both ordered the lunch special with a cheese enchilada, green corn tamale, rice and beans. I was reluctant to get a tamale because I often find tamales dry. The server assured me that the green corn tamales are a little sweet and very moist. He was right. We were surprised it didn't have any meat filling. It was basically a corn cake with green sauce. They had signs up warning that the first basket of chips and salsa are free, but we have to pay if we get a second basket. I was glad to see there was an ample amount of chips in the basket. We tried to conserve the chips by breaking them into smaller pieces before dipping. The salsa was unusually good. That was the best part of the meal. I liked the decor of the restaurant. It appeared to have been a house turned into a restaurant. It's difficult to tell. Sometimes you know instantly that the restaurant was once a house, but this one could have been built with a lot of different rooms. It looked authentic. We enjoyed this restaurant experience and it added to our enjoyment of Old Town.
I loved the ambiance of this place. It reminded me of a house where they set up several rooms to be dining areas. That may sound strange but it was actually really cool. It helps keep the noise down and give you the ability to have a conversation with your guest. I arrived a little earlier than my friend so I went inside and ordered the house margarita. Good flavor and nice presentation. I just wish for the price they were a little bigger. For lunch the lunch special grilled chicken taco plate with refried beans and rice was perfect. The chicken was hot when it arrived and lots of flavor. The waiter was attentive but not overbearing which is a blessing in some places nowadays. I would definitely recommend!
